The strength and courage with which he handled this longtime illness shaped the character of all those around him. ![]() Loren was stricken with rheumatoid arthritis at age 39, beginning a long, complex, and painful health journey. He met his wife, Ethel Mary Poupore, at the park pavilion in Gillett, and they married at St. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, spending many years hunting deer with his good friends in the Nicolet National Forest near Townsend. Loren loved his work and the time he spent getting to know the families on farms in the Gillett, Oconto Falls, and Suring areas, often times taking his children with him during their younger years. He attended training in Shawano with Badger Breeders to become an artificial inseminator, starting his career in Crandon and eventually settling in Gillett, where he spent the rest of his 35-year career. Upon returning from Alaska, he worked for his brother-in-law, Elmer Kobus, who was engaged in building power transmission lines in northern Wisconsin. When his younger brother, Don, reached age 18, Loren was drafted into the army for 2 years, stationed near Anchorage, Alaska, where he earned his high school diploma. He also developed skills as a carpenter during these years. The oldest of 5 children, he attended school through the 8th grade, and then worked the family farm and on his Uncle Toby’s fox farm. ![]() He was born January 13th, 1930, on a dairy farm in Porterfield, WI, to Carl and Cecelia (Wiedemeier) Schwartz. Noel served many years as Vice President of the Barefoot Bay, Florida, Keyboard and Organ Club often playing organ, saxophone, or clarinet at various community functions. He and Patty enjoyed attending Dixieland and Ragtime festivals. He loved Classical, Dixieland, and Ragtime music. He was also an avid music lover and enjoyed playing and collecting music. He retired after 30 years of service.Īmong his hobbies, Noel had a fascination with antique clocks, and often repaired old clocks for friends and relatives. Noel joined the Federal Civil Service at Wright-Patterson AFB, and worked in the Aerospace Medical Research Laboratory's Avionics Division. He later served on the USS Coral Sea aircraft carrier.Īfter the Navy, he attended the University of Dayton and received a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Navy to attend Electronic Technician school, and also played clarinet in the base band. Noel graduated from Chaminade High School in Dayton, Ohio, in 1948. Noel married Patty Ann Preston on June 25, 1955, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born December 25, 1929, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Robert and Alice (Jones) Schwartz.
